 Dear Friend of Emerald Hollow,

As the 2018 holiday season begins, so do the requests for financial support from dozens of deserving non-profits. Why might you consider making a donation to Emerald Hollow Therapeutic Riding Center? Let me tell you a story about a woman, we’ll call her Jane.

Jane is a female veteran living here on Cape Cod. Like so many other female veterans, Jane has struggled with the effects of Military Sexual Trauma and the associated Post Traumatic Stress for decades. In her day to day life Jane was able to get by with a fake smile, and fake words of assurance, but then Jane came to EHTRC and met Cody, one of our therapeutic horses. When Jane met Cody, she approached him as she approached everyone else, with that fake smile. But Cody wasn’t buying it. As Jane tried to groom him, Cody got agitated because he knew she wasn’t being honest with him. As a prey animal Cody has learned to see the “wolf in sheep’s clothing”, to know when someone is hiding something. Cody’s agitation upset Jane. She wanted to connect with this horse, but he just didn’t seem to like her. Jane gave Cody some space and talked to her therapist. Then Jane took a deep breath and went back to Cody, honestly. She began to talk to him. She stopped hiding behind her fake smile. She cried. And Cody walked up to Jane, took a deep breath, and dropped his head into her chest and stayed there with her.

Since the summer of 2016 Emerald Hollow Therapeutic Riding Center has been partnering with the Cape Cod Vet Center to offer the “Equus Effect” program to veterans dealing with Post Traumatic Stress and Military Sexual Trauma.  The Equus Effect is unique in its emphasis on rebuilding healthy relationships in order to facilitate personal and professional growth and healing. To date we have brought healing through horsemanship to 40 veterans on Cape Cod with our Equus Effect program, and with your support, we can help more.

The mission of Emerald Hollow Therapeutic Riding Center is to enrich the lives of children and adults with special needs on Cape Cod by providing individualized Equine Assisted Activities and Therapies.  That’s right – we partner horses with people with unique needs!

As an organization we make only one request for support annually.  Thanks to our outstanding fiscal responsibility, Emerald Hollow Therapeutic Riding Center keeps its overhead very low; allowing 81% of every dollar to go directly to service delivery and horse care. EHTRC is a Federal 501c3 Non-Profit Organization therefore your donation is fully tax deductible.
